Essentially we’ve all been looking forward to 2021 for a while, but 2020 really was the stuff of epic tales. 2020 was offering us a big yearlong wisdom harvest. Looking back a little won’t kill us. In fact, with the right attitude, it will bring us fresh juicy perspectives. Nobody skated by 2020 without moments of horror and realizations that each new day finds us actually factually on thin ice. On the other hand, I’m confident to say, we all also enjoyed heart-warming wonder and refreshing hope. 2020’s cauldron was definitely miraculous.
Yes, we had a very big year with a full spectrum of opportunities to experience the complete gamut of human feelings. Who here doesn’t appreciate being alive now? I mean seriously – pandemics without hot running water and the modern world’s host of electronic entertainment options? Forget it. I’ve always been grateful for my soft pillows and fuzzy blankets, but even more so now.
Alive Now is the operative phrase of 2020. Right here and now – let’s notice how good Now is.
I’m not so sure about Next. Uncertainty is a big part of Next and that can be scary so I’d rather be in Now. Now is just easier and I like that. Before wasn’t always great or even just fine. Sometime Before was a total major bummer. But Before never got me to the end of my rope the way 2020 did. Thanks to 2020 and my positive case of Covid which felt very negative for quite some time, I discovered a hammock at the end of my rope. Resting in it feels nice.
Thanks to 2020 and my experience with Covid, I’m holding on to being Alive Now with my sense of humor like my life depends on these things. And indeed, it does.
Based on the flip of the coin, the amount of liquid in my cup, the way the sunlight hits my rose-colored glasses, the side of the bed upon which I awake on any given day, and a host of other random synchronicities, 2020 is either a Tragic Comedy a Comedic Tragedy. The only certainty I know is that I don’t want anyone pushing the repeat button. 2021 needs to feel good. It needs to be a fresh and new start every day.
I’m committed to making it so by trusting in my dreams and learning from my nightmares. I hope you will do the same with me. Together, we are breaking the Karmic Wheel of Misfortune and building something better. I just feel it in my bones. Good is alive now. We woke her up.
So while we’re hopeful for the year ahead of us and we’re embracing Good’s Alive Now attitude with grateful hearts, let’s toast to 2021 the way “Grandpa” Floyd used to say in his epic Wedding Toasts, “may your bumps turn into bubbles!”
